MOOSE'S POND SERENADE

MOOSE’S POND SERENADE

by H Churchill Mallison 2013

The rees and the thrums

harmonized as the drums

While the chortles gurgled a watery tune.

The bleep-bloops chimed

in melodious time

to the baritone belching at the rising full moon.

Two honks kept blasting

at each other in passing,

As the screes violined an impassioned plea,

the girls in soprano

the boys in tenor

As they bargained all night noisily!

The bullrushes rustled

with Ma Nature’s hustle

and the moon silvered rings on the pond.

Whip-poor-will and a hoot

Scooped up careless loot

‘til the coming of silent dawn.

Note: Moose was one of my iguanas. He used to sneak out of the courtyard via a drainage pipe to the condo’s drainage pond.
